MUSKEGON, MI – A pair of stellar performances in the blue paint for the Muskegon Lumberjacks over the weekend earned
Oscar Westman (Stockholm, SWE) goalie of the week honors in the USHL. His play between the pipes helped the Jacks take 3 of 4 points out of a weekend series against the Youngstown Phantoms.
Friday night, Westman was tested early and often in a first period in which Youngstown outshot the Jacks 14-6. Westman kept the deficit to a single goal with 15 saves in the frame, then kept the momentum rolling through the rest of regulation and overtime, stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced. Even though the Jacks eventually fell in a shootout, the point in the standings can be directly credited to their goalie's performance.
Saturday was even more impressive, with 31 saves in a 5-2 win. Westman got more goal support from the players, including a hat trick from
Zaac Charbonneau (Gatineau, QC, CAN). Still, the uncommitted netminder kept the Youngstown offense at bay, securing 2
nd place in the Eastern Conference coming out of week 4 of the USHL regular season.
In his two games, Westman played 125 minutes and an 8-round shootout, posting a 1-0-0-1 record, a 1.92 goals-against average, and a .934 save percentage. This season, Westman is tied for 5th in the league with 3 wins and ranks in the top 10 in both GAA and SV%.
Congratulations, Oscar, on the recognition!
