MADISON, Wis. – Lumberjacks defenseman Rylan Hanson (Elk River, Minn.) announced his commitment to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Wisconsin on Thursday afternoon.
   
Hanson joined the Lumberjacks during the 2025-26 season after being acquired in a trade with the Sioux Falls Stampede. The 6-foot-2 defenseman is known for his steady defensive play and physical presence, while also contributing offensively when called upon.
 
During the 2025-26 season, Hanson recorded five goals and 27 assists for 32 points in 28 games with Elk River/Zimmerman High School in Minnesota. Over the offseason, Hanson represented the United States at the 2026 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup, appearing in five games as the U.S. captured a silver medal in Edmonton, Alberta.
 
Lumberjacks Head Coach Colten St. Clair shared the following on Hanson's commitment:
 
"Rylan is just a big, steady defenseman that brings a physical presence, and you know he hasn't even reached his ceiling. The person is the player, and he's that kind of human being. We're happy for his success, and this is just the start of his journey. He's come a long way over the summer playing in the Hlinka, and we're excited to get him here."
