Jacks Fall in Big Way to USNTDP U18s 10-0

PLYMOUTH, MI – Closing out a weekend, home-and-home series the Muskegon Lumberjacks headed to Eastern Michigan and the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth for a Saturday night matchup against the USA Hockey NTDP U18 Team. Trouble came for the Jacks from the opening puck drop falling by a final score of 10-0.
 
With the loss Muskegon falls to 22-25-3 this season while the NTDP pick up their 30th win of the season and their combined U18/17 record improves to 30-15-1-2.
 
Scoring was opened by the NTDP at the 10:34 mark of the first period. Will Vote gave the puck to Oliver Moore on the far side of the neutral zone. Moore carried the puck into the offensive zone while on a 3-on-1 and ripped a shot over the glove of Raythan Robbins. Just 30 seconds later at the 10:55 mark the program doubled up when Danny Nelson held the puck on the near side and slid it into the slot for Beckett Hendrickson to one-time home.
 
The second period belonged to the USA with four goals in the 20 minute frame to extend their lead to 6-0. Gabe Perreault got the party started 1:10 into the period by finishing a one-time shot from the near side of the Muskegon net. Cole Eiserman followed up by firing a shot below the glove of Robbins while on a rush into the zone at 6:38. Ryan Leonard got in on the action by winning a puck battle in the corner then finding a lose puck at the side of the net just over halfway through the period. Then, with 4:43 to play in the frame Will Smith found himself on a breakaway. Working off the far side wall Sith carried the puck across the crease and fired a shot past Robbins to help the NTDP to a 6-0 lead heading into the final period of regulation.
 
The third period brought four more goals for the program. Smith added his second of the game at the 3:39 mark. Guzzo struck just 32 seconds later on a solo effort in the neutral zone to make it 8-0. Then, Eiserman scored his second of the contest on a 2-on-1 with Smith who picked up the assist. Kai Janviria made it a 10-0 game with his fourth goal of the season at 8:24 for the final goal of a high offensive output by the U18s.
 
Robbins (6-13-1) started and played all 60 minutes for Muskegon facing 38 shots fired by the USA. Trey Augustine (9-0-0-2) stopped all 21 shots fired by Muskegon for the shutout in the winning effort.
