Tough Night in Waterloo for Jacks. Fall 8-2.

WATERLOO, IA – On Friday night the Muskegon Lumberjacks (8-4-1-1, 18 pts.) scored four straight goals in a come from behind 5-4 overtime win in Des Moines. Saturday night looked like they were going to do the same thing against the Waterloo Black Hawks (6-5-0-0), but the home team had other plans with a commanding 8-2 win over the Jacks.

Waterloo opened the scoring with a 5-on-3 power play goal at the 11:52 mark of the first period. Jake Delaney gave the puck to John Mustard on the near side of the Jacks zone. Mustard carried the puck around the top of the circle and moved down the slot before firing a shot into the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season.

At the 14:11 mark the Black Hawks doubled up their lead on a goal from Eero Butella. Tommy Cronin held the puck on the near side and carried in leading a shot 2-on-1 break. Cronin sent the puck across the crease to Butella who redirected it past the Jacks net minder.

Muskegon was able to find the back of the net on a power play of their own with just under four minutes to play in the period to bring the deficit to just one ahead of the first intermission. Easton Young (Grand Rapids, MN) kept the puck in the offensive zone at the middle of the blue line and walked down the slot. Young kicked the puck out to Hunter Anderson (Manhattan Beach, CA) on the far side of the net. Anderson took a few steps in and slid the puck between the legs of the goalie for his second goal of the weekend, eighth of the season.

The second period was not friendly to the Jacks as the Black Hawks scored five unanswered goals in the frame to extend their lead to 7-2 heading into the third and final period. The first goal of the period belonging to Teddy Townsend came just over a minute into the period while on the power play. The second came from Carson Reed two minutes later while Waterloo was killing off a penalty.

Justin Solovey (Holmdel, NJ) was able to get the Jacks on the board in the third period with his second goal of the weekend at the 7:40 mark. Patrick Raftery (Centennial, CO) centered the puck in front from below the goal line and Solovey was able to force it over the goal line and into the net.

Waterloo added a power play goal from Gavin Lindberg to put the game on ice at an 8-2 scoreline. Paxton Geisel (Estevan, SK, CAN) (5-1-0-1) started the game for Muskegon and earned the loss. Lukas Swedin (Stockholm, SWE) played the final nine and a half minutes in the loss. Calvin Vachon (5-1-0-0) picked up the win for Waterloo.

Next up for the Jacks is a home series against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Friday, November 10th is "I Love the 2000's Night" at Trinity Health Arena. Saturday the 10th is "Military Appreciation Night" as the Jacks will take to the ice wearing special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT on both nights. Tickets can be purchased at muskegonlumberjacks.com or you can watch the game on the official live stream partner of the USHL, FloHockey. A free radio stream is also available on the Lumberjacks Hockey Network on Mixlr.
