KEARNEY, NE – Everybody exhale. The Muskegon Lumberjacks (9-7-1-1, 20 pts.) are back in the win column with a heavy offensive output on Saturday night for a 6-5 win over the Tri-City Storm (10-7-1-0, 21 pts.).
Sacha Boisvert (Trois-Rivieres, QC, CAN) recorded 3 points in the win.
Tri-City opened the scoring in the first period with a shorthanded goal 3:12 into the contest, but Muskegon Responded with a power play strike from
Jack Galanek (Hopkinton, MA) to tie the game back up at the 6:07 mark.
Similar to last night Tri-City scored the next goal to regain their lead 2-1 at the 11:35 mark on a goal this time from Alexander Bales. The Jacks responded with two straight to tie then lead the game 3-2. Boisvert found the back of the net at the 16:20 mark by shooting on a 2-on-1 rush after a beautiful backhand saucer pass from
Joe Connor (Amherst, NH) out of the defensive zone.
Ryan Koering (Eden Prairie, MN) with his first career USHL goal on a long shot from the point just a minute later.
Before the end of the period the Storm added a goal to tie the game 3-3 heading into the first intermission and opened the scoring in the second to regain the lead 4-2. Muskegon scored two straight again to carry a 5-4 lead into the third. Another first career goal for the Jacks came for
Wilson Dahlheimer (Big Lake, MN) to score the first of the period for the Jacks.
Teddy Spitznagel (New York, NY) sent the puck to the far side corner for
Patrick Raftery (Centennial, CO) who popped it out front to Dahlheimer to redirect to the back of the net.
Hunter Anderson (Manhattan Beach, CA) added a goal of his own on an assist from
Easton Young (Grand Rapids, MN) to give the Jacks the lead heading to the final period of regulation.
Scoring was opened in the third by Muskegon when Boisvert lead another 2-on-1 rush with
Justin Solovey (Holmdel, NJ) after scoring himself in the first period Boisvert sauced a pass over the outstretched defenseman to Solovey to one-time to the back of the net.
The Storm scored once more with an empty net in the comeback effort, but in the end the Jacks picked up the much needed 6-5 win.
Paxton Geisel (Estevan, SK, CAN) (6-3-0-1) made 25 saves on the 30 shots sent his way in the winning effort. Ivan Zhigalov (1-4-1-0-0) played well making 35 saves on 41 shots taken by the Lumberjacks, but was handed the loss on his record.
The Jacks are back in action at home next weekend against the Madison Capitols. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST at Trinity Health Arena on Friday and Saturday night.
