Three Unanswered Goals Sink Jacks in Madison 4-1.

MIDDLETON, WI – For the first time in the 2023-2024 regular season the Muskegon Lumberjacks (4-2-0-0, 8 pts) took to the ice for a game against the Madison Capitols (5-0-1-0, 11 pts.). At the Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton, WI the fans were treated to spectacular performances in both creases as the Capitols skated to the 4-1 victory over Muskegon.

The Jacks opened the scoring to take a 1-0 lead at the 13:38 mark of the first period. Hunter Anderson (Manhattan Beach, CA) carried the puck down the near side of the offensive zone while on a 2-on-1 with Ty Henricks (Mission Viejo, CA). Anderson out waited the sliding defenseman before sending a pass to Henricks waiting backdoor. For Henricks it was his first goal of the season.

Madison tied the game back up just about two minutes later at the 15:25 mark on a strong effort from defenseman William Felicio. The 2006 birth year fired a shot on net that was turned aside, but found his own rebound and tapped it home for his fourth goal of the season and to tie the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

Only one goal was scored in the second period, and it was scored by Madison to take a 2-1 lead at the 12:31 mark. Rainers Rullers moved the puck to the blue line and Charlie Michaud who fired a shot to the back of the net for his first career USHL goal.

Madison added a pair of goals in the third period to pick up the 4-1 win. First, at the 17:25 mark Christopher Delaney took away the puck from a Jacks defenseman behind the net and worked his way in front to tuck a wrap around to the back of the net. Then, with the Lumberjacks net empty Max Nagel put the icing on the game with under a minute to play.

The Lumberjacks went with Lukas Swedin (Stockholm, SWE) (2-1) in between the pipes for the contest. Swedin turned away 44 of the 47 shots he faced from the Capitols. Patricks Berzins (3-0) earned the win allowing just one goal on 29 shots fired by the Jacks.

The teams close out the weekend series tomorrow, Saturday October 14th at 7:05 p.m. CDT (8:05 EDT). The game will be featured as the FloHockey, USHL Game of the Week.
