Lumberjacks fall 7-1 in Cedar Rapids, settle for a split of the weekend road series

The Jacks trailed 2-1 after one period, but Cedar Rapids scored the last five goals

After breaking a four-game losing streak with a win on Friday, the Muskegon Lumberjacks were obviously hoping to get back on a roll with a string of victories.

Unfortunately their winning streak ended at one game following a tough 7-1 loss to the Cedar Rapids Roughriders on Saturday at the ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Jacks, who have now lost five of their last six games, fell to 16-18-2 on the season. They remain in seventh place in the USHL's Eastern Conference standings with 34 points, three points behind sixth-place Cedar Rapids.

Special teams problems hurt the Jacks, like they have so many times this season. They failed to score on six power play opportunities while allowing the RoughRiders to score on three of seven chances.

Cedar Rapids scored the first two goals of the game, from Bryce Montgomery just 32 seconds into the first period and Jacob Kraft at the 14:19 mark.

Muskegon's Tyler Dunbar found the net at 16:20 of the first period, with an assist from Ethan Fredericks, and Cedar Rapids led 2-1 at the first break.

The Roughriders scored the last five goals of the game.

They collected three goals in the second period from Eric Pohlkamp at the 1:42 mark, Montgomery at 5:50 and Tyson Gross at 9:34.

The home team added two more tallies in the third period, both from Ryan Walsh, at the 13:18 and 14:04 marks, respectively.

Muskegon goalie Raythan Robbins took the loss, stopping 26 of 32 shots. Cedar Rapids goalie Bruno Bruveris got the win, stopping 20 of 21.
